On Earth

“Painting landscapes is a personal and profound experience. When I left the walls of the studio – where there is no influence of earth, water, wind – a world of many horizons began to open up. It was necessary to dig into the depths, which allows for a meditative state. At Lake Cerknica I knelt down on the ground and painted with my hands, grasses, pigments, earth. I painted the earth with the earth. The ritual was always turbulent and gentle at the same time, like a meadow on a lake, full of grace when the sun shines on it and frowning when a strong wind blows or a rain shower comes.”
